Early Rains
Not Good For Business
The early rains of the season has is bad for
business, especially for the stands and
impromptu sales counters on the streets of
downtown San Jose. It is common for the
early rains to keep people indoors, until
they get back to the rainy season way of
things.
About the only sales occurring during
Tuesday mid afternoon rain storm and
lightning were umbrellas.
Although the rainy season in the Central
Valley (San Jose) does not officially start
until next week, the afternoons and some
evenings of the last several days have seen
rain, from a light drizzle to downpours.
The Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) -
the national weather service - says that the
2009 rainy season will be lighter than last
year, with less rain in the forecast.
We have to remember that last year we had
more than rain than in several decades. The
IMN says that this year will be "normal".
But, we all know about the trust the
weatherman (or weatherlady, being
politically correct).
So, from now on remember to carry an
umbrella at all times. Rainproof shoes and
rainproof clothing will keep you dry.
And always keep an eye on the skies,
especially if the dark clouds are coming
from the northwest - Heredia - which is a
good indicator of a heavy downpour with
thunder and lightning.
