Price of Gasoline
At 12:01am Friday gasoline prices at the
pumps at all gasoline stations across the
country increase. Hours later, the Autoridad
Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep),
announced a drop in prices. However, the
drop will take effect until the middle of
April.
Gasoline prices on Friday rose ¢52 colones
for a litre of super and ¢45 for a litre of
regular and dropped ¢20 colones a litre for
diesel. That price hike was approved last
month.
The price drop announced yesterday by the
Aresep is to give back consumers of fuel
some ¢78.8 billion colones, which translates
to a drop of ¢35 colones a litre for super,
¢38 for regular and a whopping ¢59 for a
litre of diesel.
Fernando Herrero, the head of the Aresep
said he has ordered a study of the finances
of the Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo
(Recope) - the state refinery - that it
complies with the government's "Plan Escudo"
to combat the economic crisis.
The proposal by the price regulator still
has to be discussed at a public hearing
process and then published in the government
publication, La Gaceta, before the lower
prices can go into effect, which are not
expected until after Semana Santa or Easter
Week. |
