Epsy Campbell Makes
Her Presidential Bid Official
It's official, Epsy Campbell wants to be the
next president of Costa Rica, and after
weeks of politicking she formally inscribed
her name to seek the Partido Accion
Cuidadana (PAC) party nomintation at the May
31 party convention for the 2010
presidential nomination.
Campbell will be squaring off against PAC
party founder and two time presidential
candidate, Otón Solís, and Román Macaya, in
the first ever open public convention for
the party that was founded in 2000.
In her speech, with the a Caribbean rhythm
in the background, Campbell vowed to fight
for the rights of African descendents and
all women in Costa Rica.
Campbell made the announcement with her
father at her side, who told the audience
how Epsy was always an active little girl,
participating in all school activities, but
never imagined that she would be today so
close to the presidential chair.
Don Luis related his story of the family's
hardships and the most important lessons he
taught his five children, that there are no
limits. Don Luis told the story of how he
earned his university degree from the
University of Costa Rica while maintaining
his family of five children and how two
years ago earned his law degree.
Campbell, if chosen by the PAC party as
their 2010 presidential candidate may face
Laura chinchilla if the PLN party chooses
her as they candidate, making the 2010
presidential elections special, not only of
that a woman running, but two, and one being
black. |
