Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said
Thursday he hopes to have friendly ties with
the United States after the expulsion of two
U.S. diplomats from Quito last month.
"We aspire to have a fraternally relation,
at the same time to reaffirm our will of not
allowing a violation of our sovereignty,"
Correa said when inaugurating the new
headquarters of the general prosecutor's
office.
Two U.S. diplomats were expelled from
Ecuador in February for "unacceptable
interference in the internal issues" of the
country and of developing suspicious ties
with its high-level police officers.
Such practice contradicted the "announced
policy of (U.S. President) Barack Obama or
(Secretary of State) Hillary Clinton,"
Correa said.
According to Correa, Obama advocates peace
and conciliation and respects
self-determination and sovereignty of any
country.
