Guatemalan Justice Hindered
Guatemala - The obstruction of justice
in solving the first legal case of a forced
disappearances in Guatemala was denounced in
this capital on Thursday.
During a press conference, the human rights
group Center for Legal Action on Human
Rights (CALDH) referred to the delay by the
Constitutionality Court (CC) in its ruling
on an appeal on the grounds of
unconstitutionality filed by the man accused
of being responsible of the said action in
the 80s.
Ex military commissioner Felipe Cusanero is
accused of the disappearance of six farmers
of Choatalum village, in Chimaltenango
department from November 5, 1982 to October
28, 1984.
Edgar Perez, the lawyer of the people who
reported the crime, criticized the unusual
CC delay in its ruling, which he attributed
to political interests behind the accused
and other people known as responsible for
this and many other crimes against humanity
committed during the armed conflict in
Guatemala.
This denunciation of CALDH is part of
activities to commemorate the Day against
Forced Disappearance in Guatemala (June 21). |
