18 Gang Members Escape From Honduras Prison
Eighteen Mara street-gang members have
escaped from a prison in northern Honduras,
including two men charged in the 2007
kidnapping of the brother of Tottenham
midfielder Wilson Palacios.
The inmates escaped through a 15-meter
(49-feet) tunnel leading to a storage area
at a house outside the prison walls. They
were apparently were met by waiting vehicles
in which they fled.
The inmates are members of the Mara 18
street gang, and have been implicated in
kidnapping, extortion, killings and robbery.
Police identified two of the escaped inmates
as Elmer Orellana and Alexander Reyes, who
are charged in the kidnap-killing of
Palacios' brother Edwin.
The escape occurred Wednesday at a prison in
the city of San Pedro Sula. |
