Boyeros To Take Over Escazú Today

More than 200 boyeros from all over the country are expected to take part in the day's event in San Antonio de Escazú today, as part of the annual celebrations in commemoration of the patron saint.

The parade will start at 10am at the parque de Escazú and end at the Monumento al Boyero in the plaza de San Antonio.

The boyeros will take to the streets to make the 2 kilometre trip, showing off their animals and traditional carts.

Along the route, there will be sales of traditional foods and drinks, as well as raffles, dancers and mascarades at the end of the parade.

Tobías Corrales is one of the most loved boyeros in the country, who at 73 years of age, has made the parade for eight years in a row now and says that he looks forward to each as if it were his first.

The parade is not only for the boyeros, but it also a way they can show their love for the bueyes (ox).
