Colombia Uribe in Charge of
Spying Case
Bogota - The Administrative Department of Security (DAS),
accused of spying figures, was in the hands of the Mafia not only
for assault or infiltration but also by appointment of President
Alvaro Uribe.
El Tiempo newspaper, the most important publication in Colombia,
recalled that intelligence organization is led and controlled by the
Presidency of the Republic.
Columnist Claudia Lopez states that with the appointment by Uribe of
Jorge Noguera as director, the DAS has been taken by his band and
other 40 Mafias that have been recompensed for their electoral
support to Uribe's presidential drive.
This is the third time the press discovers the government's illegal
monitoring, Lopez states.
So far, no investigation, from those announced, has revealed a
single name of members of those mafias, who orders to spy , or who
pays and benefits of DAS illegalities, she noted.
Those strong accusations join to some criticisms by opposition and
several figures to the president, main responsible for what is
happening in his intelligence organization.
The phone spying scandal was uncovered by Semana magazine last
weekend and this includes a long list of judges, journalists,
opposition politicians, and the government's officials.
President Uribe denied Monday to have any relations with the case,
and said that his government's policy is not to spy oppositions. |
