Nicaraguan Liberals Insist
on Boycotting Assembly
Managua - The Nicaraguan Constitutionalist Liberal Party (PLC)
parliamentarians are threatening on Tuesday to keep boycotting the
National Assembly sessions, requesting cancellation of the November
municipal elections in 2008.
The governing Sandinista National Liberation Front obtained an
overwhelming victory in those elections, when its candidates for
councillors won in 105 of 153 municipalities of the country.
The liberal opposition, also composed of the Vamos con Eduardo group
(VCE), insists on ignoring those results, although that attitude
affects the country's interests in international cooperation,
observers said.
We continue protesting, while the bill for cancellation of the
November 9 elections is not presented to a commission, liberal
Member of Parliament and member of the parliamentary Board of
Directors Wilfredo Navarro said.
"We are not saying approving it, but presenting it to a commission
for assessment and that it submits it to the plenary for the final
decision," he said.
The Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance (ALN) will present on Tuesday a
reform to the Minimum Wage Law, supporting a proposal by the Private
Sector Superior Council.
Nicaraguan unions object modification of the salary law and
elimination of its review twice a year.
Other issues will be discussed in the session, including an
initiative for a decent housing. |
