Diesel and Super Gas Prices To Drop Thursday

Diesel and Super Gas Prices To Drop Thursday

If you can hold off, do so, as gasoline prices drop on Thursday, ¢29 colones for diesel and ¢3 for super.

The new prices on Thursday will be ¢386 for a litre of diesel, down from the current ¢415; and, ¢484 for super. Regular gasoline prices will not change.

The drop is the latest approved by the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) before the Semana Santa holidays and will be published in the official government publication, La Gaceta, on Wednesday, taking effect at 12:01am Thursday at all gasoline pumps across the country.

However, that is not the only good news. On March 20, the Aresep suggested an adjustment reduction of ¢59 colones for a litre of diesel, ¢35 for super and ¢38 for regular, that will take effect, hopefully, next month.

That drop is being argued by the state refinery, the Refinadora Costarricense de Petroleo (Recope), that it will deplete cash reserves kept by the refinery to make its purchases.

However, the Aresep says that the reserves are actually profits, which should be handed over to the consumers.
