A group of protestors have taken into their
own hands the situation that residents
of Santa Ana are living each day, completely
chocking off traffic at the Santa Ana/Pozos
bridge this morning (Monday).
The residents say they will maintain the
blockade until they get a solution to their
problems form the ministra de Obras Publicas
y Transportes.
The residents are objecting to the
relocation of the bus stops at Santa Ana,
some of which have been moved up to one
kilometre from their original location,
meaning a long and dangerous walk along the
highway.
The group is also protesting against the
materials used in the reconstruction of the
Santa Ana bridges.
As part of the
construction of the highway to Caldera from
San Jose, the Ministerio de Obras Publicas y
Transportes and the highway builder,
Autopistas del Sol, have relocated a number
of bus stops in Santa Ana, locating them
near the two pedestrian overpasses under
construction.
Also, a barrier blocking pedestrian crossing
of the highway is being erected on both
sides of the pedestrian bridges, forcing the
crossing using the overpasses.
The protestors, who have blocked traffic in
both directions at the Santa Ana/Pozos
bridge say they won't let up until they get
an answer.
In the meantime, traffic is being rerouted
on the "via vieja" (old road) to Santa Ana
and through Belen.
