Nicaragua’s
Ortega Says EU Acted Like ‘Shark’ in Trade
Talks
By Eric Sabo
(Bloomberg) -- Nicaraguan President Daniel
Ortega said he broke off trade talks with
the European Union because it acted like a
“shark” seeking to impose unfair regulations
on Central America.
“We cannot negotiate with a gun to the
head,” Ortega told reporters in Nicaragua
late yesterday, according to a speech posted
on the presidential Web site. “They want to
put us in a free trade agreement where the
shark swallows the sardine.”
