Nicaragua: Less AIDS in Central America
Managua - Nicaragua is
the Central American nation with less people
affected by the Acquired Immuno Deficiency
Syndrome, said statistics data from the
Nicaraguan Commission for AIDS (Conisida).
Of the 380,000 people living with the
disease in the Central American area, only
3,876 are from Nicaragua.
Despite the low incidence, national
authorities make efforts to avoid more
infections.
Among the aspects highlighted in the
government programs it is that in 2008, the
covering of tests was achieved in the 1523
municipalities of the country, a great
advance taking into account that in 2003
this was only possible in the National
Diagnosis Center.
To guarantee treatment to 789 patients
infected by AIDS and 50 percent of the
pregnant women also has access to tests and
for the end of this year, it is expected to
have a covering of 90 percent.
A third of the sick persons of AIDS in
Central America is in Honduras and
Guatemala.
