LIMA - The judicial
process against Peruvian
former President Alberto
Fujimori resumed Monday
after a two-week break,
Peruvian Supreme
Prosecutor Avelino
Guillen said.
Fujimori knew the
paramilitary group
Colina would develop
into an annihilation
squad from the time of
its creation, Guillen
said as he began reading
the probes against
Fujimori.
Guillen requested the
reading of the document
that records Fujimori's
message to the nation on
Feb. 7, 1991, which
"serves as evidence for
the parallel strategy of
the National
Intelligence Service
(SIN)."
He said this document is
important for the
Prosecutor's Office
because "it proves that
Fujimori was aware of
the SIN's actions in
detail."
He added that the
annihilatory actions
were plotted by the SIN
and Fujimori knew about
the parallel strategy
from the beginning of
the practice.
The Colina group is the
alleged perpetrator of
two massacres that
claimed 25 lives during
the actions known as the
Barrios Altos in 1991
and La Cantuta
University in 1992.
Fujimori, who is alleged
to have ordered the
kidnapping of a
businessman and a
journalist in April
1992, is accused of
crimes against humanity.
He could be sentenced to
30 years in prison if
convicted, said Guillen.
The reading of the
probes is the last phase
of the trial, which
began in December 2007.
