U.S., Colombian Summit
Due In Mid-September
WASHINGTON - U.S.
President George W. Bush
will meet his Colombian
counterpart Alvaro Uribe
on Sept. 20 to beef up
cooperation between the
two countries, the White
House announced on
Friday.
"Colombia is a strategic
ally of the United
States, and this visit
underscores the deep
friendship and extensive
cooperation between the
United States and
Colombia," White House
spokeswoman Dana Perino
said in a statement.
"The two leaders will
discuss a range of
issues, including their
shared commitment to the
United States-Colombia
Trade Promotion
Agreement, continuing to
reduce violence and
increase peace and
security in Colombia,
and strengthening
democracy throughout the
region," the spokeswoman
said.
Bush met with Uribe at
his Texas ranch in
December 2007 with the
two sides having talks
over bilateral trade and
issues of mutual
concern.
