Panama Party Sets
Election Campaign
PANAMA - The
pro-government
Democratic Revolutionary
Party of Panama is
preparing its campaign
for the 2009 general
elections, aiming at a
second term of office.
Presidential candidate
for that party Balbina
Herrera said that the
campaign committee will
be officially
established next week
and will have more than
50 members.
So far Herrera has
appointed Benjamin
Colamarco, minister of
public works, Laurentino
Cortizo, ex-minister of
agricultural development
and Hector Aleman,
second undersecretary of
the Party as
coordinators.
The draft of a
government plan for the
next term is expected to
be presented In November
and to focus on
education, health,
decentralization, public
transport and security.
Herrera is evaluating
her ticket partner.
Other presidential
candidates are Ricardo
Martinelli for
Democratic Change, Juan
Carlos Varela for the
Panama Party, and
Guillermo Endara for the
Moral Vanguard of the
Fatherland.
