Chilean President Calls for Unity
SANTIAGO de CHILE -Chilean President Michelle Bachelet reiterated her call Wednesday for "not to fall into temptations of any kind and act with responsibility, wisdom, social sensibility, reasonable optimism and unitary spirit to face the world economic crisis.

"It is fundamental,” she said, “a will of unity and collaboration on the part of all the actors and that is not only reflected in words, but also in the facts."

The Chilean President made the call after receiving Alfredo Ovalle, president of the Production and Trade Confederation, in a similar meeting to those she had this week with union and political leaders.

She outlined the necessity to continue working responsibly and not to become a part neither to fall victims of alarmism, nor pessimistic diagnoses.

Bachelet added that this attitude, together with the local government's economic lead, "will allow us to keep on growing, generate new investment projects and take care of the employment ". She insisted in the convenience of the joint efforts by the government, workers and managers.

Accompanied by the Chilean Minister of Treasury, Andres Velasco, and Economy, Hugo Lavados, Bachelet admitted that Chile "is not immune to the effects of the international turbulences", although it has big strengths to be able to face those threats.

Among other data, she assured that this year, the growth of investment will increase up to 28 percent of the Gross Domestic Product.
