WFP Donates Food to
Guatemala
GUATEMALA - The World
Food Program office in
Guatemala sent over 25
tons of flour, grains
and vegetable oil as
food aid for 5,000
people affected by
recent heavy rains in
this Central American
country.
A WFP press release said
that each Guatemalan
family located in
shelters will receive
the basic nutritional
requirements over the
next 10 days, while
conditions to return to
their homes are being
re-established.
Rains associated to
tropical storm 16 caused
serious damage to the
agriculture, housing and
workplaces of thousands
of people, the document
pointed out.
To respond to the
necessities of the
affected people the WFP
transferred the
provisions toward the
departments of Peten,
Izabal, San Marcos and
Chimaltenango.
The organization said it
is constant monitoring
the whole national
territory in
coordination with
several aid institutions
to assure immediate
distribution of foods if
necessary.
