Chavez: Margarita,
Future Oil Base
Caracas - Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez
said the island of
Margarita will become a
base for oil, gas and
petrochemistry
development offshore,
with the purpose to
satisfy the needs of the
Brazilian people.
After he toured a
program called Rescue of
Environmental Spaces at
Margarita Island,
Venezuelan state of
Nueva Esparta, Chavez
said that the reserves
of the island will be
exploited on the base of
integral projects.
“We must develop tourism
on rational bases, not
like other governments
did before, turning
these islands into
rubbish dumps,” Chavez
stated, after he called
to rescue the balance
broken by the capitalist
domination.
We should also be
supported on the
agricultural, fishing
and food enterprise
development, he added.
“Margarita was
transformed in a
platform for money
laundering, given to the
neo-colonial tourism,
which is not decent for
the Venezuelan people.
The Socialist Revolution
of Venezuela must be
planted from the deepest
of these lands and these
waters, to save them
from capitalism and
neoliberalism,” he said.
“The insatiable and
consuming tourism Nueva
Esparta does not need,
has forced us now to
create an integral plan
to clean beaches and
mangrove swamps, and
restore spaces,” he
concluded.
