Girl Scout Troop Bound
For Costa Rica

A group of local Girl
Scouts are planning to
participate in community
service projects on a
2˝-week trip to Costa
Rica this summer.
The girls are part of
the Girls Experiencing
Camping Canoeing Cycling
and Outdoors, or GECCCOS,
Girl Scout troop 1106.
"It's getting girls
outdoors, overcoming
adversity and enjoying
the nature," said Jean
Beucler, who will be
attending the trip with
her daughter, Anna
Beucler, who will be a
senior at Poudre High
School this fall.
Ten girls in grades six
through 12 and seven
adults plan to travel
across Costa Rica. They
plan to surf, hike
around volcanoes, ride
horses, take canopy
walks and zip line
through forests.
But they'll also be
working with a turtle
preservation program,
helping paint a school
and donating athletic
equipment and school
supplies to the school.
The troop has been
planning the trip for
two years, raising money
through cookie sales and
other fundraisers.
The troop also has
traveled to the San Juan
Islands off the coast of
Washington and to Mount
Kilimanjaro in Africa.
"My daughter went on the
Africa trip," Beucler
said. "It was really
cool to see the growth
on that trip and become
the leaders on this
trip. I think that's
what Girl Scouts is all
about - training them
and giving them
confidence."
