Meeting On Tamarindo
Regulatory Plan To Be
Held July 11

- Next Friday, July 11,
at 2 p.m., there will be
a meeting to discuss the
proposed Tamarindo
Regulatory Plan, at the
San Jose de Pinilla
Community Hall.
The meeting will serve
as a mechanism to
receive requests from
groups or individuals.
Each request will
include the name of the
person, the name of the
organization he or she
represents (if
applicable), the reason
for the request and its
description, in addition
to any information
considered relevant to
substantiate the
request.
Each person will have
five minutes during the
meeting to explain to
officials with the
Municipality of Santa
Cruz and the Housing and
Urban Development
Institute (INVU) his or
her request. Answers to
the requests will be
provided at the
beginning of the next
meeting. These audiences
are taking place before
a not-yet-scheduled
community meeting in
which authorities will
seek additional feedback
from participants, once
they have had time to
review their requests.
Three documents will be
available at the July 11
meeting: the regulatory
plan, regulations, and
descriptions. There will
be time for discussion
of the plan, followed by
comments, suggestions
and opinions about the
zoning proposal outlined
in these documents.
Currently, officials are
planning the first of
four open meetings,
where residents,
developers, investors
and any other
individuals interested
in the regulatory plan
will be able to voice
their comments and
suggestions. The
regulatory plan affects
communities within the
district of Tamarindo
such as Tamarindo Beach,
Langosta, El Llanito,
Villareal, Santa Rosa,
Cañafistula, Hernandez,
Pinilla, Avellanas and
La Garita.
On a related note,
thanks to the support of
hotels and other
tourism-related
companies, the
Guanacaste Chamber of
Tourism (CATURGUA) and
consulting firm
Consultores Urbanos have
been preparing, since
April 15, a master plan
for local development in
Tamarindo, which
encompasses a study of
the current
infrastructure in this
popular destination as
well as recommendations
and proposals to solve —
in the short, medium and
long term — the
different infrastructure
issues facing the
district.
As part of this
initiative, three
Consultores Urbanos
engineers will carry
out, on a voluntary and
free basis, a technical
assessment of six key
areas for the
development of
Tamarindo’s tourism
industry and the
community at large.
One this mater plan is
completed, CATURGUA
plans to present it and
share it with various
public institutions with
the goal of identifying
solutions jointly.
“We hope that this
effort we are
undertaking with help
from hotels and other
affiliates in the
region, which will help
us pay for lodging, food
and transportation of
the engineers, will
result in the generation
of a master plan that
will allow us to know
the current condition of
Tamarindo in different
service areas, in
addition to formulate
technical
recommendations so that
we can make better
decisions according to
the district’s economic
and population growth,”
explained Mauricio
Cespedes, executive
director of CATURGUA.
