Correa Breaks Bread Price Gouging
Expectations that the price of bread would further rise Monday come up against the Ecuadorian government's warning about establishing an official price for that important product.

President Rafael Correa warned on the weekend he will reject any intention by businesspeople to increase the price of that product unfairly.

He made his statements after the Association of Bakers in Pichincha, the province where the capital is located, announced a 20 percent rise in the price of bread.

If they do so "we will take over the bakeries and set an official price," Correa alerted, and pointed out such an action has no justification.
