Man Sentenced To 12
Years Prison In Child
Pornography Case
A 38-year-old
German-born automotive
engineer who was
arrested in a federal
crackdown on child
pornography was
sentenced in Detroit on
Wednesday to 12 years in
prison.
U.S. District Judge
Julian Cook imposed the
sentence on Oliver
Buelow, who was arrested
during a layover at an
Atlanta airport in March
while boarding a plane
for Costa Rica to have
sex with a teenage girl.
He arranged the trip
online with an
undercover FBI agent
posing as a tour company
operator that organized
trips abroad for sex
tourists.
Assistant U.S. Attorney
Leonid Feller said in
court papers that Buelow
also asked for
photographs of minors as
young as 10 from the
tour company for
additional sex acts.
Authorities began
investigating Buelow
after he purchased us$50
worth of DVDs containing
child pornography from
U.S. postal inspectors
during a sting last
February. He also sent
inspectors a DVD
containing child
pornography with his
us$50 payment.
During an e-mail
exchange, Buelow asked
an inspector if he could
suggest how he could
have some fun in Costa
Rica, hinting that he
was interested in a
sexual adventure.
Buelow, lead engineer
for a Detroit-area
automotive parts
supplier, pleaded guilty
in November to mailing
child pornography and
attempting to travel to
engage in an illicit sex
act.
After completing his
sentence, he is to be
deported to Germany,
authorities said. |
