Venezuela Ready for FARC
Releases
The Venezuelan political
panorama focuses Tuesday
on the release of three
people announced by the
insurgent Revolutionary
Armed Forces of Colombia
(FARC), after intense
humanitarian labor by
President Hugo Chavez.
The guerrilla reported
its willingness to hand
over former legislators
Gloria Polanco, Luis
Eladio Perez and Orlando
Beltran to Chavez and
Colombian Senator Piedad
Cordoba or their
representatives.
Faced with that
statement, the
Venezuelan government
expressed satisfaction
with the recognition of
Caracas in favoring a
humanitarian accord in
the neighboring nation.
Relatives of the former
legislators traveled to
Venezuela and met with
Foreign Minister Nicolas
Maduro, to ratify the
executive's peace
commitment in Colombia.
Maduro indicated that
the country already
issued instructions to
those involved in the
case, to establish in
the next days the
necessary mechanisms to
achieve the transfer of
the mentioned people to
the Venezuelan
territory.
This step will be firmed
up once the country has
the coordinates of the
zone, where they will be
received from the
Colombian insurgency.
On occasion of the 16th
anniversary of the
February 4
civic-military action,
Chavez offered
Venezuelan territory to
receive all people in
the hands of the
guerrilla.
The FARC unilaterally
delivered in mid January
former candidate to the
vice presidency Clara
Rojas and former
legislator Consuelo
Gonzalez to Venezuelan
representatives. |
