Flooding Leaves 20,000
Homeless In Northern
Colombia
Bogota - A swollen river
has left more than
20,000 people homeless
in Colombia's northern
province of Magdalena,
officials said on
Sunday.
No flood-related death
was registered yet,
despite the record-high
water level of the
Magdalena river, the
longest river in
Colombia, said Omar
Diaz, governor of the
Magdalena province.
Those rendered homeless
were sent to schools and
store houses where they
received food, hammocks,
awnings and plastic
sheets and the army is
on patrol to prevent
possible looting of
abandoned homes.
The second raining
season in Colombia this
year has left at least
60 people dead and half
a million homeless
across the country,
officials said.
