Padre Minor Continues
With His Live Radio
Program From Jail
As expected, Catholic
priest Minor Calvo went
on the air yesterday
morning, continuing
broadcasting his radio
show on Radio Centro
from the San Sebastián
jail.
Padre Minor has his
program interrupted by
jail officials and
authorities of the
ministerio de Justicia
after 10 minutes of
being on the air on
Thursday, but was
allowed to continue his
program after he
presented a writ of
habeas corpus against
prison authorities for
violating his rights of
free speech.
Calvo argued that he has
the right, as all the
other prisoners, to his
the public telephones in
the jail.
Radio Centro said it is
being paid ¢750.000 a
month to air the “Jesús
está Vivo” and has a
signed one year contract
with the priest who is
waiting to have his
fraud conviction
sentence confirmed by a
higher court.
Ronald Hernández,
general manager for the
radio station, confirmed
the details of the
contract of the one hour
program it airs at 9am.
The Instituto Nacional
de Criminología
(national criminology
institute) is studying
the permission requested
by the priest for the
live broadcast and
analyze it for any
security aspects.
Fabián Volio, Calvo's
lawyer, assures that
there is no prohibition
against talking on the
telephone at the jail.
