Nicaragua: Bolivar,
Marti and Sandino Forum
MANAGUA - An
international forum on
Bolivar, Marti and
Sandino, as an
ideological basis for
the Bolivarian
Alternative for the
Americas, was held
Thursday at UNI (the
National Engineering
University), in Managua.
Sponsored by the Marshal
of Ayacucho Foundation
(Venezuela), the forum"s
objective is to
facilitate exchange and
integration of students,
intellectuals,
professors, officials
and revolutionary
youngsters from
different Latin American
and Caribbean countries.
In his opening speech,
Nicaraguan Education
Minister Miguel de
Castilla noted what
several programs
supported by ALBA meant
for the country.
But an ideological
foundation was missing,
which is an
anti-imperialist,
socialist basis, as
proposed by the Ayacucho
Foundation, he said.
He extolled support
given by the Cuban
Revolution and Venezuela
to programs implemented
in Nicaragua.
President of the
Foundation Jorge Arraza
referred to Bolivar"s
visionary thinking as a
precursor of
anti-imperialist
struggle in Latin
America.
Jose Antonio Lopez,
political counsellor of
the Cuban Embassy, spoke
of Jose Marti"s work, as
a follower of the
Bolivarian ideas who
first denounced the US
imperialist threat to
the region.
Nicaraguan historian
Aldo Diaz Lacayo spoke
about the life and work
of Augusto Cesar Sandino
and his anti-imperialist
struggle against US
invaders. |
