Mother's Day Tomorrow
Cellular telephones, appliances, clothing and home furnishings are selling like the proverbial hotcakes as consumers make their last minute shopping spree in time for Mother's Day tomorrow.

Retailers cashing in on what could be called the most important retail period, second to Christmas, with offers to attract customers.

At the Play stores, they report that cellular phones are the most sought out items for mothers on their day, while at the Ekono store in downtown San José, socks, pjamas and slippers are the favourites. At Best Brands, items with yellow tags offer consumers all types of deals.

Although retailers have been quite satisfied with sales this Mother's day, they still expect better sales figures today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday).

Although tomorrow is a legal holiday, retailers will be taking advantage of the shopping frenzy, including some have expanded their hours staying open longer than normal for today and tomorrow.

All banks, government offices and agencies, professional offices and most businesses will be closed tomorrow as Mother's Day is a legal holiday.

This year Mother's Day is being observed on its day rather than being moved to the following Monday as it did the past two years following the introduction of the law by the previous administration moving all weekday holidays to the following Monday. A public outcry forced the legislators to restore the holiday to its day, August 15.

Salaries that are normally paid on the 15th will be paid today. For many who don't work on Saturday, this is a long weekend.
