Festival Imperial 2008 Kicks Off Today
La Guacima is ready for the big festival as its doors open this morning at 10:00am to thousands who will flock to the 'autodromo" (race car track) to see their favourite national and international artists.

Some 50.000 are expected - 25.000 each day of the event - that concludes tomorrow evening.

International artists on hand to entertain are Duran Duran, Smashing Pumpkins, Seal and Enrique Iglesias. The international artists will take to the stage on Sunday while the national artists will be highlighted today.

The event is organized by the Cerveceria Costa Rica, brewers of Costa Rica's most popular beer Imperial.

Although the doors open early, the activities won't begin until at least 2:00pm and the beer won't start flowing until 4:00pm.

Organizers say there still are some tickets available for the event. La Guacima is located west of the international airport.

Buses will run every fifteen minutes from downtown San Jose direct to La Guacima. Buses will also be running every 15 minutes from downtown Alajuela to the race track.

For those who are driving, the Policia de Transito recommends not to drink and drive and will be mounting an intensive campaign against drunk drivers on all routes around La Guacima.
