Colombia "Officially"
Denies Any Links Between
Costa Rican Politicians
An the FARC
Costa Rican president,
Oscar Arias, said he
received an "official
communication" from the
government of Colombia
which denies any links
between the Colombian
rebel group - the
Fuerzas Armadas
Revolucionarias de
Colombia (FARC) - and
Costa Rican politicians.
Arias said that the
Colombian government
said that they have
found no information in
the personal computer of
killed FARC leader, Raśl
Reyes, that links Costa
Rican politicians to the
Colombian rebels.
Reyes was killed on
March 1 by the Colombian
army in Ecuador.
Arias said that the
Colombian government is
committed to immediately
informing Costa Rica if
it were to find any
evidence of any links.
On Monday, the Costa
Rican government said it
was going to send a
delegation to Colombia,
headed by interim
Security minister and
vice-president, Laura
Chinchilla, foreign
minister Bruno Stagno
and chief prosecurto
Francisco Dall'Anese,
among others.
However, given the
communications,
president Arias said
that the government will
now re-evaluate sending
or not sending a
delegation to Colombia.
The president was
emphatic that his
current government, like
that of his last
government 20 years ago,
has nothing to hide and
is operating in full
transparency.
