Nicaragua Authorities Seize Coke Cargo
Nicaraguan police confiscated approximately 800 kilograms of cocaine on the border with Costa Rica, National Police Chief First Commissioner Aminta Granera informed on Thursday.

"I wouldn't like to give the exact weight, [but] we have over 800 kilograms," asserted Granera, who called Wednesday's operation at Peñas Blancas "another harsh blow to organized crime."

Police had prior intelligence about the arrival of the drugs from Costa Rica with destination to Honduras.

The drugs were found hidden in secret sections of a truck and the truck driver, of Costa Rican nationality, was arrested.

Granera made the announcement after a posthumous homage to a noncommissioned police officer who died in a clash with a gang of kidnappers in northern Nicaragua.
