Uruguay Shuts Argentina Border Bridge
Uruguay ordered closing the borders with Argentina at the Fray Bentos bridge near a cellulose plant that is causing disagreement between both countries.

The decision was made less than 24 hours before President Tabare Vazquez authorized the setting in motion of the industry that has disturbed the Argentine government. His decision was made during his participation in the XVII Ibero American Summit being held in Chile.

It also antecedes a demonstration called for today by the environmentalists of the neighboring country by land and on the Uruguay River, as well as by air.

Defense undersecretary Jose Bayardi warned that Uruguay would take security measures to prevent Argentine environmentalists from reaching the installations of the company both by land and by river.

Referring to the demonstration in the air, he informed that evaluations are in process to decree a zone of air exclusion over the plant and that planes violating that ruling could suffer fines and restrictions.
