Recope Begins Dredging
At Moín
The Refinadora
Costarricense de
Petroleo S.A. (Recope) -
the sate oil refinery -
this week began dredging
the port of Moín, next
to the port of Limón on
the Caribbean. The
dredging of sediment
will allow for larger
ships to enter the port.
The arrival of larger
ships is an effort to
reduce traffic in and
out of the port and make
room for other economic
activities, Recope said
in a press release.
The refinery estimates
that it will save us$4.5
million dollars per year
by allowing ships
carrying 60.000 metric
tons of oil into the
port that now can only
handle ships carrying
half of that load due to
sediment accumulated on
the ocean floor.
The work will be carried
out out over the next
six months and it is
expected that the large
ships can start docking
by the end of January
2008. |
