Government To Contribute
to Rebuilding of
Calderón Hospital
Medical Tower
The rebuilding of the
east tower of the
hospital Calderón
Guardia comes to us$24
million dollars after it
was destroyed by fire
intentionally set on
July 12, 2005, that
killed 19 people.
The government of Taiwan
was to cover us$10
million dollars of the
us$24 million dollars of
the cost of the
reconstruction as part
of a number of donations
the Taiwanese have been
making in the country
for some time.
However, that financial
support has left the
country when the Costa
Rican government broke
off diplomatic ties with
Taiwan in favour of
China. The Taiwanese
have now closed their
embassy in San José and
with them left all the
millions of financial
aid.
The government announced
yesterday that it would
make up the us$10
million dollar
shortfall.
Eduardo Doryan,
president of the la Caja
Costarricense de Seguro
Social (CCSS), announced
yesterday that the
bidding process can now
begin.
The winning bidder,
according to the tender,
has 70 weeks from the
signing of the contract
to construct and equip
the medical tower.
Doryan said he could not
offer a completion date
for the rebuilt tower
since the tendering
process is just
beginning.
The rebuilt tower will
comprise 15.000 square
metres over six floors
that will accomodate 280
hospital beds.
The east tower will also
house radiology, a
centre for nutrition,
the gynecology and
obstetrics departments,
that will include
delivery rooms and
neonatology, as well as
a centre for
transplants. |
