"Women" Initiate Brazilian
Prison Break
Disguised as women, two
Brazilian convicts managed to
evade surveillance, surprise
guards at the gate, and
facilitate the escape of another
82 prisoners, Brazilian TV
reported on Monday.
Police have so far managed to
recapture 37 of the fugitives
from Itapeva Prison, designed to
hold 80 prisoners, but
containing 146.
This makes the third mass escape
in Sao Paulo State since the
beginning of the year.
The escape from the Provisionary
Detention Center in Belem, east
of Sao Paulo, occurred when a
prisoner pretended to be sick.
The second escape, from Sao
Roque, was brought about by two
armed men who penetrated the
prison to release some
accomplices and freed 71
prisoners, almost half the
prisoners in the place.
