Lower Emissions
Carbon monoxide emissions in the
San José Greater Metropolitan
Area are 10 percent lower now
than in 2003, as a result of the
emission controls to which all
motor vehicles in Costa Rica are
subject now, according to the
report “Environmental Impact of
the Technical Check of
Vehicles”.
The decrease, in spite of the
larger number of motor vehicles
–14 percent from 2003 to 2005–
and the increased use of fossil
fuels –almost 13 percent–, was
confirmed in a study jointly
developed by the ministries of
Public Works and Transportation,
Environment and Energy, and
Health, and the German Technical
Cooperation Agency.
