Border Crossing With Nicaragua Saturated
Officials of the northern border crossing at Peñas Blancas say the border is in total chaos due to the large number of Nicaraguans headed home for the holidays.

More than 100.000 foreigners crossed the border legally during the past week, some 40.000 more than what immigration and customs officials had anticipated.

The chaotic situation was such that a number of people had to walk up to 5 kilometres to reach the border control post as the buses did not make it to the last - the border - because of heavy traffic that cause massive back logs.

In some cases, immigration officials left their desk and took to the sidewalk to stamp passports.

The same situation will be occurring, although in reverse, will occur next week as the many will be making they way back to Costa Rica where they live and work.
