US Trade Unfair,
Nicaragua's Ortega Says
President Daniel Ortega
reiterated his criticism
of unfair terms of the
free trade agreement
signed by Nicaragua with
the US and extolled the
Bolivarian Alternative
for the Americas (ALBA).
Free trade agreements
mean unfair trade, as
they always benefit
larger countries, said
Ortega in a speech in
Sebaco, 62 miles north
of Managua, on Saturday.
He mentioned the example
of the tax on the import
and sale of tobacco the
US is planning to impose
which, he said, will
affect Nicaragua's
tobacco production.
He asserted that ALBA, a
pro-integration
initiative based on free
trade and solidarity
promoted by Venezuela,
Cuba, Bolivia and
Nicaragua, is bearing
fruit in his Central
American country through
Venezuelan and Cuban
cooperation in nearly
every sector of society.
