Narco gang threatens to “stain with blood” Carnival in Limon

October 10^th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) A gang of drug traffickers are threatening to “stain with blood” the carnivals getting underway this weekend in Limon, according to a written threat obtained and published by the newspaper Diario Extra.

Law enforcement is reportedly increasing security as a result.

“This is the last opportunity we are giving your boss and the blood will run where you least expect it,” a portion of the threat begins, believed to be in reference to a debt owed by a Limon-based drug trafficker.

The written threat warns of the killing of innocent carnival goers if necessary to exact their revenge, alleging that the drug gang is who has paid for the festivities themselves, adding that the carnival is a “time bomb” where “many will be harmed” and that it is “better to stay at home than risk your lives.”

According to the Diaro Extra report, the threats are believed to have originated from two men connected with a drug trafficking organization who have also been linked to contract killings in recent years.  The newspaper also claims to be in the possession of additional audio recordings containing threats.
