Limon Carnival heats up this weekend

October 10th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) The annual carnival in Limon, part of the Municipal Cultural Week which celebrates Columbus’ discovery of the Americas on October 12th, 1492, heats up this weekend with parades, street dances, and plenty of the unique foods of the Limon province.
Beginning at 1 p.m., dance troupes will perform throughout the city streets of Limon in colorful traditional regalia.
On Saturday morning, the National Learning Institute will sponsor the making of the largest “cocada” – a ball-shaped treat made from coconut – ever seen in Costa Rica.
Tomorrow night is all about reggae and calypso music, with groups like Raíces taking the stage at Vargas Park beginning at 6 p.m.
Cultural Week, and the party in Costa Rica’s Caribbean, continues until next weekend, and is worth the trip for those who have never been.
And while enjoying the dance and rhythym, don’t forget to take a break and recharge on some traditional Caribbean dishes such as rice and beans, mondongo (tripe) soup, the famous panbon and of course the “patty.”
Better yet, unlike most of the rest of the country, clear skies are expected this weekend in Limon.
