Contraloría Authorizes San Jose Transfer of
Airport Management
The Contraloría General de la República
(Comptroller's office) Thursday night
approved the administration of the Juan
Santamaría (San Jose) airport to be managed
by a private company, for up to 25 years.
The original contract for the management of
the country's main international airport was
for a period of 20 years.
The Contraloría authorized an additional
five years and paves the way for the
transfer of management of the airport from
Alterra Partners to Houston Airport System
Development Company (HASD).
The endorsement by the Contraloría also
authorized changes in the schedule of works
at the terminal.
The ministra de Obras Publicas y Transportes
(MOPT) said last night that the transfer of
the airport management will occur any day
now.
in anticipation of the approval, HASD
resumed construction of the terminal a
couple of week ago, using its own funds, to
advance the project.
