Nicaragua to Attain Literacy Goal in July

Managua - Nicaragua authorities are set to accomplish their goal of declaring the country illiteracy-free in July, thus, dismissing any possible doubts on the government's commitment with the task.

Alberto Salas, head of the 80-member Cuban team advising on the implementation of the "Yes, I Can" teaching method, said of Nicaragua's current illiteracy rate at 5.86 percent, so it may be well below 5 percent by July.

Nicaragua is the fourth country of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) with an illiteracy rate below 5 percent, a UNESCO parameter that most be met for a country to be declared illiteracy free.
