Tegucigalpa - Honduran earnings have dropped 10 percent
this year but local producers expect aid
through the Bolivarian Alternative for the
Peoples of our America (ALBA). Financial
officials said it was impossible to reach
goals set for June due to a $79.4 million
fall in tax revenue, reported La Tribuna
daily.
As such, social organizations of this
Central American nation value the resources
allocated by the Venezuelan government
through ALBA.
We are in dire need of the 30 million
dollars sent by the Venezuelan government to
boost agriculture, said Rafael Alegria,
leader of the Via Campesina, warning of the
need to make it available in the National
Agricultural Development Bank (BANADESA).
Tractors donated by Venezuela, he commented,
are already situated and the operators are
being trained to start next week.
For Alegria it is "a great contribution but
we need to speed up the agricultural bond
and financing for small and medium sized
farm owners."
More than 25 popular organizations attached
to the Inter-Institutional Council of ALBA
expressed similar needs in relation to their
sectors during an assembly held in the
BANADESA headquarters, reported the local
press.
