Guatemala -
Guatemala's President Alvaro Colom stated
his government is interested in clearing up
the May 10 murder of lawyer Rodrigo
Rosenberg, which has been vigorously
condemned.
Colom sent a television message to the
nation shortly before midnight on Tuesday,
accompanied by Vicepresident Rafael Espada
and his cabinet.
The president categorically rejected some
statements that try to involve him in this
action, as well as First Lady Sandra Torres
and private secretary of the Presidency
Gustavo Alejos.
The statesman requested Attorney General and
Chief of Public Ministry Amilcar Velazquez
to carry out all efforts to detain those
responsible for the crime.
Colom called people to be calm and respect
the country's institutionality, and to
ignore intentions by some groups interested
in creating ungovernability. |
