EU, Rio Group Ministerial Meeting in Prague

Prague -  Top officials will begin Monday a two-day debate at Prague Congress Centre, before the 14th Ministerial Meeting of Rio Group member countries and the European Union.

The Czech Republic, holding EU temporary chairmanship, headquarters the debates, to mainly tackle the world economic recession, the cooperation and recovery of the financial stability.

Experts will first analyze some current issues before the EU, an economic and political union of 27 members, and GRIO of 23 meet on Wednesday night for the first time during the inaugural ceremony of the encounter.

According to the organizers of the event, the previous debates will be also focused on climatic change and renewable energy sources, considered as a sustainable source for energy security.

Chilean Minister Mariano Fernandez, Venezuelan Nicolas Maduro, Peruvian Jose Garcia Belaunde, Costa Rican Bruno Stagno, Nicaraguan Samuel Santos and Mexican Patricia Espinosa, among others are to participate in the encounter.

Rio Group, presided over by Mexico, consists of a total of 23 Latin American and Caribbean countries, will count for the first time with the presence of Cuba, since Cuba joined GRIO on Nov. 2008, as well as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

Besides Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Caricom.
