The Consejo found that in many cases the
victims of domestic violence do not have the
financial ability or family support to get
away from their aggressor.
In addition, the judges have to make it
clear to victims of domestic violence that
the decision to seek aid from a shelter is
completely voluntary.
The Inamu shelters allow women and their
children a stay of between six and eight
weeks, safeguarding their physical and
emotional well being.
The order by the Consejo is binding
immediately on all judges of family courts.
