Gasoline Price Ups and Downs

Get ready to shell out more for a litre of gasoline, as the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) is analyzing the latest request by the state refinery for a hike of ¢20 colones for a litre of super; ¢15 for regular or plus; and ¢5 for diesel.

The increase is based on the current exchange rate of the US dollar to the Costa Rican colon and the price increases of crude oil on international markets.

That increase, if approved, would take effect the middle of June

The Aresep last month approved a decrease of ¢12 colones per litre of super; ¢13 for regular; and ¢14 for diesel.

The reduction is expected to take effect at the gasoline pumps around the country by the third week in May.

Current Price Price Drop in May New Price in June
Super ¢484 ¢472 ¢492
Regular ¢474 ¢461 ¢476
Diesel ¢386 ¢372 ¢367
