Managua - The soccer and
baseball matches as well as political and
press events for May Day were canceled on
Friday in Nicaragua due to the threat of
human flu (A/H1N1) spread.
The Nicaraguan Federation of Soccer (Fenifut)
said in a communiqué that it suspended the
Women's National Championships and soccer
Third Division agenda matches to be held on
May 3 in order to prevent the infections in
the sports fields.
Nicaraguan declared a sanitary emergency on
Wednesday due to the human flu outbreak.
The Superior Commission of Baseball of
Nicaragua decided also to suspend this
weekend the last day of the first round of
the National Championship of the First
Division German Pomares Ordonez (CSB).
In a communiqué the CSB said that some to
the calcification matches will be held,
however these will be played without
audience.
Meanwhile the ruling party Frente Sandinista
de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) and Movement
Let's Go with Eduardo (MVE) from the
opposition did not marched on Friday, May
Day, to avoid the infection with human flu
at massive events.
Also the Journalist Association of Nicaragua
(APN) from the opposition announced the
suspension of their May Day celebration due
to the sanitary emergency for human flu.
Managua's Archbishop Leopoldo Brendes
requested Catholics no to attend the
Presbyterian Ordinance on May 2 in the
cathedral of Managua to avoid any risk of
infection.
The Sanitary emergency in Nicaragua
prohibits massive concentration due to the
human flu, despite the health authorities
have discarded possible cases in the
country.
According to the WHO's latest update, the
total number of lab confirmed human
infections of the A/H1N1 influenza has
reached 365,with one death from the United
States and nine deaths from Mexico.
In total, 13 countries and regions have been
affected by the disease.
