for Panama Vote
Panama - Close to a thousand
professionals of national and international
media will cover the general elections
scheduled for May 3 in Panama, informed
official sources. According to the Electoral
Court that runs the process, to date 840
journalists have been accredited, 730 from
national media and 110 from abroad.
That number should be more complete by May 2
as journalists come to follow the voting and
inform on the results from facilities of the
Conventions Center, ATLAPA.
The country can rely on complete
transparency and impartiality of the
Electoral Court as arbiter of the process
explained the magistrate president of that
institution, Erasmo Pinilla.
There are 1,594 positions open for voting
that include that of the president, vice
president, deputies to the National
Assembly, mayors, representatives,
councilors and legislators of the Central
American Parliament.
According to electoral figures 2.2 million
Panamanians can exercise their right to vote
in these elections with a gender
distribution of about 1.1 million men and
1.1 million women.
This Thursday at midnight prohibition is
enforced on political advertising in the
mass media or demonstrations. |
