Intel Corporation introduced 17
enterprise-class processors led by the
Intel® Xeon® Processor 5500 series. It is
Intel's most revolutionary server processors
since targeting the market with the Intel®
Pentium® Pro processor nearly 15 years ago.
And made right here in Costa Rica.
More than 70 Costa Rican engineers at
Intel's Belén plant and three years of work
led to the development of the new processor
chip that will be used mainly in super
computers performing high task loads.
Intel produces a majority of its processor
chips at the Belén plant, that are use in
computers around the world. The Belén plant
exclusively works on 18 different Intel
family products.
Intel began operations in Costa Rica in 1996
with one assembly and micro-processing
plant. Today, the plant is responsible for
the design of microchips, electronic circuit
boards and houses Intel's investigations
unit and accounting and financial support
for the company.
The Xeon® chips can automatically adjust to
specified energy usage levels, speed data
center transactions and customer database
queries, and will play a key role in
scientific discoveries by researchers who
use supercomputers as their foundation for
research, all while delivering great
energy-efficiency for reduced electricity
costs.
